Our last day in Elizabeth Harbor at Great Exuma was filled with fun. We had a long dinghy ride into town and back along the shore, and are getting the hang of staying dry in substantial seas. There were large waves out on the Sound, and we saw breakers spraying way up in the air, clear over Stocking Island. So we decided to go for a walk on the island to get a fish-eye view of the ocean.
With the elegant curls and aqua spume, it looked like surfing weather – except for the dangerously rocky shoreline.
The island has some nice paths for hiking and we made good use of them.
Next, we invited new friends Dave and Beth from Grand Haven, MI, over for drinks and a chart review. They have spent the last seven winters in the Bahamas, and we made notes as they demonstrated their local knowledge of the Abacos, our destination for the month of March.
Tonight, the wind went to nothing. From giant breakers, the seas lowered to gentle swells. With flat seas, the view is incredible. The star-studded night sky bends down to admire her reflection in the calm harbor. She almost touches the anchor and masthead lights of the 250 boats in the anchorage. It’s hard to tell where the stars begin and the boat lights end.
