We departed St. Michaels in drizzle, a continuation of the weather for the past few days. We steered from the dry warm comfort of the pilothouse, and headed for Rock Hall, MD.
After spending the night at the free town dock, we departed in the morning, with weather still drizzling but calm for our continued transit of the Chesapeake.
In all kinds of weather, the crabbers keep busy – and litter our path with their crab pot floats.
As we approached the northern end of the Bay, we passed the freighter Thalassa Desgagnes, out of Quebec.
We anchored for the night in Chesapeake City, on the western end of the C&D Canal, which connects the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays. We had intended to stay at the town dock, but the water was too shallow.
We dinghied to town for a walkabout, and enjoyed its historic homes, many of them from the mid-1800’s, and peaceful streets.
That evening, a sailboat came in late and anchored a bit too close to us. We could tell this, because the next morning, they had snapped off our aft teak flagstaff, and rudely left without saying goodbye!
