After one last beautiful sunrise at the cottage and a last night in town, today we departed our summer port of Tobermory, Ontario to begin the long trek to the Gulf of Mexico!
We had hoped to go directly across Lake Huron the 95 miles to Presque Isle, but Mother Nature had other plans. Strong winds out of the west made us choose the more circuitous route through the protected North Channel. An early rise put us through the Little Current swing bridge midday, and on to our night’s anchorage in Clapperton Harbor, Clapperton Island.
We had anchored here many years ago on our sailboat, when this resort was a going concern. Now it is shuttered, for sale, and in need of repair. But we decided we don’t need to be in business any more, and so won’t rise to the bait!
It was a windy evening, but we tucked along the north lee shore, and were treated to one more great sunset.
