October 9 & 10, 2007 - On the Hudson River

October 9th found Monarch on the expansive Hudson River. We cleared our last lock, the Federal Lock in Troy, NY (Lock 1 on the canal system), and now face the moderate tidal currents of the Hudson. The weather is overcast and damp and we are REALLY enjoying having a warm pilothouse to steer from.

This is Albany, NY where we cruised right in front of the Capital.

The Hudson is similar to the Detroit River, where we share the water with the 'big boys'.

Even though the weather has been gray, we have enjoyed looking at the beautiful homes lining the riverbank.

This is the entrance to the Rondout Creek. Each of the creeks and rivers so far have had interesting lighthouses at their entrances.

We are now anchored about three miles up the river in very quiet spot. Last night was spent at Shady Harbor Marina in New Baltimore, NY. Like most places we have stopped, the people bend over backwards to help. We wanted to pick up a few groceries and were going to walk to the local store. The man at the marina explained it was over 3 miles to the store and he told us to take his car to the store. We did!
