August 10, 2009 - Thessalon, Ontario

The day’s delay paid off, as we were treated to a perfect powerboat day. The seas were calm, and shortly we were at the Soo, and through the MacArthur Lock.
The impressive Edison Sault Electric facility is on the US side of the St. Mary’s River
Further on, we re-entered the St. Joseph Channel, and had a beautiful cruise toward Lake Huron and the North Channel.
We stopped for the night and to clear Canadian Customs at Thessalon. Only a few boats were in the beautiful new harbor.
The dock mistress also keeps a fine flowerbed and many pots of flowers placed along the docks.
We took advantage of the marina’s free bicycle loaners to see the town. The Thessalon River runs through it.
A thin peninsula juts south into the North Channel, providing the town with excellent protection from prevailing westerly winds. The town is arrayed along the peninsula, which we enjoyed touring on our borrowed bikes.
