August 11-12, 2009 - Bear Drop Harbor, North Channel, Ontario

Departing Thessalon, we made our way to one of our most favorite anchorages, Bear Drop Harbor in Whalesback Channel, part of the North Channel. This is one of the best cruising grounds in North America and maybe the world.
Our first night at anchor here, we shared Bear Drop Harbor with 17 other boats! It must be high season (finally) in the North Channel.
We enjoyed two nights here, and spent the days exploring in the dinghy, which runs like a top!
The area has many beautiful rock formations, jutting out of the water and high above our heads.
We did a 15-mile dinghy ride in this area, and discovered this private cabin, with a cedar-shaked water tower, reminiscent of our cabin’s arrangement at Stag Island. As we do, this cottage draws its water right from Lake Huron.
We cruised Moiles Harbor, where we have anchored during previous North Channel cruises.
As we returned to Monarch, we were treated to this beautiful sight of a small sailboat running dead downwind, “wing and wing,” with jib and mainsail on opposite sides of the boat.
