April 27, 2009 - Seaford, VA

After passing through the northern lock on the Dismal Swamp we were back in civilization – Norfolk. Left behind was the wilderness and industry now crowded both sides of the waterway. This lift bridge was having maintenance performed on it and delayed us for about 15 minutes while it was closed and worked on.

As we traveled north through Norfolk, we were once again awed by the size of the warships that are docked there. This aircraft carrier is immense!

Our destination for the next few days was Mills Marina in Seaford, VA. As we traveled up Back Creek to the marina, we passed the Seaford Scallop Company and their fleet of boats. We were impressed at the fine condition of these vessels. We walked to the Scallop Company the next morning to inquire about purchasing some of their scallops. They informed us that they did sell to the public but in minimum 40 lb bags. That was much more than we were looking for!

Once at the marina, this Osprey greeted us. Its nest was on the pilings at the end of our slip and it would make quite a commotion every time we ventured out on the stern of the boat.
