May 15, 2009 - Brewerton, NY

We started the day with patchy fog and 47 degrees.

At one of the locks we saw this canal mini-workboat.

Walleye fishing appeared good as we crossed Lake Oneida. The lake is about 20 miles long, and we were glad to have a relatively calm day.

As we approached our marina for the night, we saw the beautifully varnished Elegante, a classic wooden Whittcar motor yacht from Naples, FL. We had seen them in Owl Creek last October, as they came in to have some paint work done. We chatted with the captain and first mate, who told us they are from Paradise, MI and work full-time on the boat.

Here we worked to lower the “air draft” or profile of Monarch, putting down the radar mast, bimini and antennas, so we can make it under the lowest bridges, which are on the next stretch of the canal.
