May 6-7, 2009 - Cape May, NJ

This day took us from Maryland to Delaware to New Jersey. After transiting the C&D Canal, we emerged into the Delaware River and the Delaware Bay, a 56-mile, wide-open expanse. Fortunately, the weather was favorable, and we had a smooth crossing.

The Ship John Light marks a shoal at the juncture of the Delaware River and Bay.

The Cape May Channel led us from the Delaware Bay into New Jersey and the harbor of Cape May, which leads to the North Atlantic Ocean.

We anchored with several other boats off the Cape May Coast Guard Station. Weather reports were not favorable, and we settled in for the night to wait for a better report.

Sure enough, the next day, in came the dark clouds followed by heavy rain and a few thunderclaps.

A brief lull between the storms gave us a pretty sunset, and we spent our second night in this anchorage.
