April 16, 2012 - Spooners Creek, NC

Up early this morning, we timed it right for the Wrightsville Beach Bridge, which opens only on the hour.
We enjoy seeing how the homes along the Intracoastal are decorated. This one has a modernist statue of Neptune, made out of what appears to be scrap metal.
And this one, a giant giraffe
This house needs no embellishment, and makes us think we made a u-turn back to Florida.
Here is notification that Camp LeJeune sometimes practices with live ammunition on the barrier islands along the Intracoastal. At those times, this section of the waterway is closed!
These enterprising souls were digging for mussels along the waterway.
That night, we picked a great anchorage at Spooners Creek, just south of Morehead City, North Carolina. The harbor reminded us of Champney Bay in Port Royal near Naples, Florida. It was very well protected from any weather, and surrounded by beautiful homes.
