May 13, 2012 - Havre de Grace, MD
From Rock Hall, we crossed the main channel of the Chesapeake Bay to its northwestern corner. This is a busy shipping route, evidenced by this huge roll-on, roll-off auto carrier.
A new stop on our itinerary is Havre de Grace (Harbor of Mercy), at the northern end of Chesapeake Bay on the Susquehanna River. Tidewater Marina had a dock for us, and a courtesy car for a trip to Save-A-Lot.
A traditional skipjack was on a mooring.
Bookstores, antique shops and gift shops were within a few blocks, as were a number of tempting restaurants.
The town calls itself the “Duck Decoy Capital of the World,” and boasts a 1,200-decoy museum.
Our choice for dinner was the Tidewater Grille, just a short walk from the docks. Shrimp wrapped in bacon and jambalaya were excellent choices!
Many local buildings reflect the town’s rich bay heritage.
