April 4, 2012 - St. Johns River - Continued

We’re seeing more ‘gators.
One favored mode of transport in the shallow and protected waters is by houseboat; we saw hundreds! Speaking of shallow, as we entered Lake Beresford for our planned stop at Lake Beresford Yacht Club, we ran (softly) aground. The Vice Commodore gave us local knowledge, which she thought would work, but Monarch was just a bit too deep to enter the lake.
Our plan B was to head two miles upriver, and anchor, then launch the dinghy for our Club visit, which we did.
The approach to the Club is evident, with multiple boats at the docks. We had heard that the Club had had a fire about five years ago, and we saw the site.
The new Club is a pre-fab building, and a nice in ground pool and patio has also been constructed.
The kitchen for the Club doesn’t look like much, but we had an excellent meal of rib-eye steak and sweet potato fries.
And the Club has its resident alligator!
